Birthday Party/Celebration Guidance for Families
Below are some suggestions to make the birthday party in school for your child the best it can be:
- Requests must be made to the teacher at least one week in advance to make sure there are no other activities planned.
- Adults/Guardians/Aunts/Uncles/Grandparents will not be permitted in the classroom for the party.
- Please arrive on time with party treats and supplies by 1:30 pm. The party will only be from 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm.
- If the party starts later than 1:30 pm, additional time cannot be added since students and teachers need to begin preparing for dismissal.
- If you plan on bringing a beverage for the students, please purchase Capri Sun pouches, juice boxes, or water bottles. Pouring drinks is time-consuming and causes spills.
- Please limit party foods to the following:
- halal snacks (no gelatin)
- prepackaged cupcakes
- Pizza (must be approved)
Unfortunately, no home-baked goods are permitted.
- Please make sure you have all the supplies necessary for the party, such as:
- plates
- napkins
- juice boxes or individual water bottles (No Soda)
- table cloth
If you plan to bring goodie bags for the class, please make sure there are no snacks containing nuts due to allergies and that there are enough bags for each student in the class.
Please do not bring soda, balloons, or candles.
PS 583 Grading Policy
At PS 583, grades are based on student learning and progress toward grade-level standards. We use a consistent, standards-based grading system to ensure grades accurately reflect what students know and can do.
Grading Scale
- 4 = Exceeds Standards
- 3 = Meets Standards
- 2 = Approaching Standards
- 1 = Well Below Standards
Grades are based on classwork, assessments, and performance tasks, not behavior, participation, or effort alone. Teachers use multiple sources of evidence throughout each marking period to measure student learning.
