Save for College
In the school year 2024-2025, every kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade student enrolled in NYC public schools (including participating charter schools) is eligible to participate, no matter their family income or immigration status.
The NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program provides families, schools, and communities with a way to work together to save for their children’s futures. It’s a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students, starting in kindergarten—regardless of their family’s income or immigration status.
Once a student is enrolled in the Save for College Program, NYC Kids RISE will create an NYC Scholarship Account and automatically allocate $100 for your child’s future college and career training. There are opportunities for families to get more money for their student’s NYC Scholarship Account over time.* Community organizations, businesses, neighbors, and others can contribute money to groups of students’ NYC Scholarship Accounts through Community Scholarships to demonstrate the community’s support for every child’s success.
Important Facts About Your Child's Scholarship Account
- This account is managed by NYC Kids RISE, and the money is set aside for your child’s college and career training.
- The money is invested in a NY 529 Direct Plan, a type of investment account specifically created for college and career savings that can be used for a variety of higher education expenses.
Opt Out
The initial opt-out period will take place November 4 - December 4 for the 2024-25 school year. After the opt-out period has begun visit the NYC Schools Account to opt out. After logging in to your NYC Schools Account, look at the main screen with all of the tiles. Click on the “Forms” tile, then click on the “view” button on the next page that is next to “NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program.” After this you can review program information and will have relevant options available towards the bottom of the page.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Nina.
